MEET GIANA
I've always had a passion for health and well-being, and during my undergrad, I was drawn to examining factors that impacted wellness beyond the biomedical sense. My exposure to courses like community development and health promotion led me to pursue graduate studies in recreation and leisure studies. Throughout my graduate studies, I have been studying the leisure and wellness experiences of equity-deserving groups, such as im/migrant, newcomer, international student, and refugee communities. I continue to reflect on my lived experiences as a first-generation Filipina-Canadian to inform my inquiries on social justice, leisure, and well-being of groups marginalized by systemic inequity and oppression.

In two projects examining: (a) race- and gender-based harm occuring in Canadian LTC; and (b) return-to-work experiences of mothers (of colour) in the academy following parental leave.
